CMV: The only way for the "Two-party system" (aka First Past the Post) to be abolished is for Americans to agree to stop

Americans often complain about how we have a "two-party" system.
62% of Americans say the two major parties are doing a "poor job" and that a third party is needed. \[[1](https://news.gallup.com/poll/696521/americans-need-third-party-offer-soft-support.aspx)\]
However, 65% of Americans voted in the 2024 election, and 98.5% voted Democrat or Republican. \[[2](https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2025/2024-presidential-election-voting-registration-tables.html)\]
You see the problem. What we say and how we behave are in major disalignment.
I say, if we truly want to end the two-party system, we simply need to organize a national campaign to stop voting en masse and force the system to change. Put our money where our mouth is.
What people actually mean when they say we have a "two-party" system is that we have a First-Past-the-Post voting system.
One of the most important political videos I've ever watched is [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7tWHJfhiyo) by CGP Grey explaining why we have a "two party" system (which is actually a First Past the Post system). If you haven't seen it, I cannot recommend it strongly enough.
One of the major points explored in the vide

would it REALLY be so bad if i wasn’t here anymore?

okay bare with me here. i’ve dealt with feeling depressed for most of my life, honestly from when i hit puberty which unfortunately for me was in my preteens. i’ve thought about ending my life for that long too and it got to a point where ive just picked an age where i’m gonna do it. partly due to bullying and honestly just my natural disposition im a very insular person. i don’t have a wide circle of friends, i keep my feelings to myself and take on a supportive role in any friendships i do have. im somewhat close to my family but any sort of conversation about feelings is quickly dismissed so ive given up on talking to them about how i feel.
despite feeling so low i’ve managed to achieve most of my life goals, did well at sport and well at studies to the point where i’m ticking off my last hurdle which is a phd. these are all things my parents wanted me to achieve so once i’ve finished my phd why can’t i just.. go? i’m so tired of never feeling accomplished, of the constant hollow feeling in my chest and the urge has been so bad lately as i’ve been under a lot of stress.
i don’t have many people in my life so there’s not a lot of people will miss me anyway, plus it’s one less per

Why does solitude change people so much?

I’m genuinely curious and would love outside perspectives. I’ve noticed that spending time alone (by choice, not isolation) seems to change how people think, feel, and move through life.
For those who’ve experienced it—what changed for you? Was it positive, uncomfortable, or both?
I’m asking respectfully and with an open mind!

Can you support a kid when still in college?

I (M21) know this is a stupid question and it’s kind of depends but I’m just wondering your thoughts on this. I don’t plan on having kids anytime soon, but I know some people that are like friends of friends and they have had kids while still in college and I’m just wondering, especially at my age how hard is that
How do people usually make it work?

I am fully focusing on myself this year.

Hi!
I am a 20 year old poet, writer and artistic woman. Currently, I am also a law student.
This post is a way of me finally commiting to myself and deciding I am fully focusing on myself this year.
I wish to create, I wish to write, I wish to love.
Those are the words I go by.
I wish to meet like-minded individuals. Disciplined, hard-working, full of love and ambition, empathy and care.
I wish to publish my book.
I wish to write many more poems and create a collection. Then publish it.
I wish to meet like-minded people. Followers of Christ, ambitious and disciplined, passionate and dedicated.
I wish to be fully who God intended me to be.
I cannot go half into all of this.
I am right now commiting to my self-improvement journey, I will take care of myself and focus my energy into my life; what I can control, actions I take, thoughts I think, words I speak.
Each upvote will remind me.
Thank you for reading through.
Let’s journey through together. 💜

Have you ever had a dream that affected you in real life?

I fell in love in a dream a week ago. I sobbed for a day. It was a girl. She had red hair and was absolutely amazing.
It really did fuck me up, but it helped me be more aware when I’m dreaming 😭

22nd birthday today; I dread the 23rd.

wow what a terrible feeling. I feel like it’s all downhill from here. I’m gonna finish college and (hopefully) get a job and do that until I die. My parents are in their 60’s and I don’t know how much longer I have them. I feel so isolated all the time, even when I’m with others. My birthday used to make me happy, now it makes me sad, and it gets worse every year. Call the geopolitical atmosphere the cherry on top, but honestly, I can’t even care about that right now. I can’t afford to live, even if I could, id still be rich and sad. I can’t keep doing this for another 30-40 years. I didn’t ask for any of this

It is troublesome to see the kind of posts and comments from conservative commentators

Go to any conservative and other subs supporting ICE etc. Their comments are pretty bad. They are actively white nationalists, calling names to all other countries in Africa and Asia as they are inferior human beings without culture and are apparently out to take over American culture.
With that kind of hate, it is difficult to imagine if Americans will ever learn to live peacefully.

I spend most weekends alone at home

And I have a hard time coping with it. I feel lazy and lonely from not going out.
I wish I was more courageous to go out to the bars by myself... I don't want to be seen as the lonely drinker.

CMV: The military is essentially adult daycare

Full disclosure: I am not, nor have I ever been in the military but I come from a largely military family, have many friends who have been in the military and have lived in a “military city” for many years.
What I’ve come to believe is, while there are many people who join the armed forces for reasons of valor or to challenge themselves in some way (or to make daddy love you - -\*fingers crossed🤞!) there is a \*significant\* percentage of those who join who simply don‘t understand how to navigate the real world. They’ve graduated high school or reached their late 20s and found that the nuances of life have eluded them. For whatever reason, they’ve decided to trade their sovereignty/personal freedom for a life where they are forced into personal discipline and given a set of basic rules to follow with the promise that it will “open doors“ for them in the future.
I don’t think it‘s an exaggeration to say that the military is the biggest example of socialism in action. You’re provided with money, housing, food, training, life direction in exchange for your loyalty to a social structure/government. The rest of us figure all this stuff out for ourselves, or we fail and have to scrape ou

CMV: National Ranked Choice Voting should replace the Electoral College & within congressional races

As my post implies ranked choice voting should be implemented in the United States in place of the electoral college, as well as for congressional races.
It promotes third-parties, as people are more likely to vote for someone, when they know their vote isn't wasted, and ensures they don't end up promoting the "greater of two evils". It gives independents a voice, and gets rid of the electoral college, that gives people of certain states more power than others, while *actually* ensuring that the candidate with *majority* support gets elected. I
In the Senate and the House, it will lead to third parties gaining support and some seats, ultimately leading to multi-party coalitions while ensuring local representation.

Cmv: You can’t become a billionaire without committing some sort of crimes

So all the billionaires we see today are hated for some sort of reason. Like Amazon ceo for using his lavish yachts while his workers suffer or bill gages for laying of 1000s of people. But have we ever seen a billionaire that is loved by their people and never had a scheme pull up? Even if there is one I refuse to believe they aren’t hiding some sort of truth. The ethical way someone can become rich is being a millionaire because billions means a large income gap which comes from exploiting someone. That wealth comes from something whether it be their company workers or some poor African country for their resources
Edit : when I meant sort of crime I meant unethical ways not criminally coded guys. Also I’ll say 90% of them since we have some rare self made billionaires who sticked with the same career as to sports or entertainment.

I want to go back to the „feeling nothing” stage

Hi everyone, and my English is still not perfect, I haven’t posted much since my last post added a more than a year ago „I fell in love with terminally ill girl” when I wanted to got something off my chest.
The end of my confession is something I can’t tell anyone, so I’m here…
After many I think I can call it „traumatic” events: cancer, losing my love of my life (she died almost 6 years ago and the history of it is in my post i mentioned earlier), kidnapped and raped by 3 men, assault with a knife and I just lost a spark in my eyes, I really wanted to end it and I tried but unsuccessful and I’m not going to try again, I found the another solution (please don’t take it as advise).
I started to take x@n@x, it fried my brain and my feelings and that was what I was looking for, after a few months I quit, I didn’t feel anything and it was great because I had too much negative emotions and less the good ones, I lived by the rules I’ve made up: work, collage, meeting with friends, learn how to be data analyst - as I’m now (from 6 months), the things my life was getting back on track and then the mother (like a mother for me more than my mother) of dead girl I loved died…
But
I (23F) open

I was rejected without even doing anything.

I've known this girl for almost two years. We're not friends, but I like talking to her. I think she's cool.
We've been talking a lot these days, and yesterday was her birthday. Today she mentioned that she got some perfumes as gifts, and apparently she knows a lot about perfume. I mentioned that someone once complained about my perfume, saying its for man from the streets. She agreed and said it was a “mainstream” perfume, so I asked her for a perfume suggestion. Her response was “You should ask the person who's going to smell you.” Like, tf? I don't think I'll ever recover from this.

I dont know if it was SA or not

I dont know if my ex SA’d me or not and it’s really affecting me.
I dont think it was, but my mind keeps going back to ‘but what if it was?’, and idk what to do. He’d ask to do stuff, and when I’d say no he’d ask again and I felt bad so I said yes reluctantly, but he didn’t know i felt bad and that I didn’t actually want it, so it isn’t his fault, is it? He also constantly asked me to give him head even though I told him I wasn’t ready to try that yet (I was 15, currently 16 and he was quite a few of my firsts), but he kept asking and once tried to get me to just kiss it and I kept saying no; I never gave him head, but it made me super uncomfortable that he kept asking.
I dont really know how to feel about him, we broke up a while ago and I have a wonderful boyfriend now, but recently it’s just been playing on my mind I guess.

I'm stuck in a loveless relationship

I found out my husband was cheating on me a few months ago. It has entirely destroyed my psyche. I confronted him about it and I ended up taking him back. I have never had any self worth and I know my husband preys on that. Since catching him, he has kept communication up with her - inviting her out to dinner (which he swore they didn't actually go), sending her recordings of his singing (which he initially recorded for me), sent her lyrics to his songs (which he has never shared with me) and even recently sent her an AI song about how she's the one he thinks about all the time, the person on his mind, the forbidden love he'll never regret. Every time I call him out, he lies and gaslights and has explanations that don't even make sense. Like with the AI song, despite the fact that it was posted from his account, in his writing style, and is about not regretting an affair, he says that he did not generate the song, he never read the lyrics, and just likes how it sounds and had mentioned to her that he likes that kind of sound and wanted to show her an example. And despite knowing it's a blatant lie, I told him I believed him.
See, he and I have a child together. A child that's not e

Why should we help others more?

When we fall in love with someone or genuinely care for someone from the heart, three hormones—oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine—are released together in our brain.
As a result, a unique and pleasant feeling arises within us. We feel happy and joyful without any specific reason. Because dopamine is involved, our brain keeps craving that feeling again and again.
Interestingly, the same three hormones are also released together when we help someone selflessly or express gratitude sincerely.
So, if you want to live a good and happy life, try to help others selflessly or express gratitude as often as possible. Instead of getting involved in forbidden relationships, shouldn’t we focus more on helping others?
And if you want proof, try helping a helpless person selflessly today and then notice how you feel inside.
Helping others or showing gratitude does not always require money. Speaking kindly to people with a warm smile is also a form of expressing gratitude. Imagine you are walking down a road and notice some garbage lying in the middle, making it difficult for others to pass, but no one is cleaning it or removing it. If you take the initiative to remove it, through that simple act y

Does anyone else feel like their mind accelerates faster than they can keep up with?

I’m trying to describe a mental experience and I’m wondering if others recognize this.
For me, the problem isn’t overthinking in the anxious sense. It’s more like my mind accelerates beyond what I can process or execute.
When something clicks — a good idea, a creative project, insight, momentum — my thinking speed suddenly ramps up. Ideas stack on top of each other faster than I can work through them. I’ll be mentally at step 15 while I’m still physically doing step 2.
It doesn’t feel emotional in the usual way. It feels mechanical. Like a system overheating.
Imagine a laptop fan spinning faster and faster until the whole machine feels unstable.
The strange part is that this often happens when things are going well. Flow, success, creativity, clarity — those trigger it more than stress or sadness.
Common advice like “go for a walk” or “try to relax” doesn’t help, because it doesn’t slow the process. It actually gives my mind more room to run.
What I seem to struggle with isn’t motivation or discipline, but regulating the speed and volume of my thinking. Once it crosses a certain threshold, it feels like there’s no built-in brake.
I’m curious if others experience this:
• Thinking th

Does anyone else notice advert actors in other adverts?

What do I mean? Like the Tena piss pants lady is also in an ad for Wickes kitchens, as is the older lady from the Maryland cookies ad ("Ooh, lovely").
Also I've noticed there's a guy from another kitchens ad (possibly Wren) who's a contestant on the Pottery Throwdown.
It's worse than searching IMDB while watching a film; "What else has she been in?" And it really annoys my wife.
Anyone else either annoyed with this behaviour or can point me to more examples?

My friends and I recorded the all of pubs we visited in 2025

[Some of us took it more as a race...](https://i.redd.it/k3z7iuwru4cg1.gif)
Edit: \*all of the (embarrassing)
For a few years now, a group of us predict and record different metrics over a year because we love a bit of arbitrary data. This year we decided to record every time we visited a pub. The rules were simple:
* Predict the number of times you will visit a pub at the beginning of the year, and tally with "# - Pub Name". It does not have to be a new pub.
* A pub is defined as an establishment that has a reference to 'Pub' or 'Free House' on any reputable source.
* If you enter the same pub twice in the same "session" of drinking (e.g. a pub crawl) it still only counts as one.
* You must purchase something within the establishment in order to tally it.
The 7 of us had 441 pub visits, in about 180 different pubs. Here are the results:

Michael got the closest to his prediction with a 2 pub discrepancy, and James (me) failed the hardest with 145 at an 85 pub difference, making up 32.9% of the group's total pub visits at almost 3 per week.
Interestingly, a couple yea

Building an early-stage app for AI-generated image contests — looking for feedback

Hi! I’m building Artigenius, an early-stage app focused on AI-generated image contests.
Creators will be able to submit their AI images, explore others’ work, and compete in creative challenges. I’m sharing it now just to get honest feedback, not to promote a finished product.
Does the idea make sense? Would you use something like this?
Once the app is ready, I’ll come back to launch the first contest, including cash prizes.
If anyone wants to check it out, I can share the link.
Thanks! 🙌
