Multimodal LLMs are the real future of AI (especially for robotics)

I strongly believe multimodal LLMs (AI that can understand text, images, audio, and actions) are the next big step in AI.
Right now, most LLMs are mainly used for chatting. But I think the real breakthrough will happen in robotics, where AI needs to see, hear, and act in the real world.
Think about it:
Every robot already has (or will have) sensors:
* **Cameras** (drones, vehicles, humanoid robots)
* **Microphones**
* **Depth sensors / LiDAR**
* **GPS / IMU**
* Maybe even tactile sensors
A robot doesn’t just need to *talk,* it needs to:
* **see the world**
* **understand scenes**
* **reason about physical space**
* **plan actions**
* and **execute in real-time**
And multimodal models are basically built for this.
I feel like as robotics advances accelerate, the demand for multimodal intelligence is going to **explode**, because robots are not operating inside a browser, they’re operating in the real world.
I’m building in this space. What’s your opinion on the future of multimodal LLMs?

cmv: We are heading towards a Containment Economy.

First and foremost. I truly believe the following will come to pass within the next five - ten years. In short, the worst case scenario.
A.I. and machine automation will utterly steamroll the workplace despite whatever hiccups and minor setbacks. Politicians give lip service but ultimately do nothing. Similar to decades ago when good paying, stable, manufacturing jobs went overseas and south of the border. Laying off workers and decimating many regions of the country. (Rust Belt)
Countless jobs and professions, both low and high skill alike will be eliminated. Whatever few positions left, with the aid of advancing technology. Will be streamlined and de-professionalized to the point where anyone can be hired and do the job. (For less pay)
Whatever new jobs created in this new dark age will NEVER offset the amount destroyed.
Countless millions will forever remain jobless.
Public education will be reduced to the basics and end at the 8th grade. Public schools will be shut down en'masse nationwide. High school will be optional, but parents will have to pay heavy tuition (Similar to Japan and South Korea). As it would be pointless to continue providing free education and resources to a

I think I am screwed

( I'm writing this from a mini account, since my main got banned)
A few weeks ago , I realised that I might be trans . The problem is that if I were to publicly announce it to my family, the result will be negative. So I freaked out because I realised that I will have to marry a woman and I am not attracted to them.
My parents seperated the week after, so that didn't help much either. Since then I bassicaly spend the whole weekend being miserable, every weekend. I usually controversial post on Reddit and get banned for a while, because I am very lonely at weekends.
I apologise to anyone I may have annoyed.
I still, at the time of writing, have no clue what to do . If I come out, I am likely to lose my friends and the respect of my family. If I don't, then gender dysphoria will kill me inside. I already have enough problems with my parents, can't exactly add more to the pile.

Hey everyone!
I recently spent a couple of weekends improving Karpathy's excellent LLM Council Open Source Project.
The [original project](https://github.com/karpathy/llm-council) was brilliant but lacked usability and flexibility imho.
**What I added:**
* Web search integration (DuckDuckGo, Tavily, Brave, Jina AI)
* Clean Modern UI with a settings page to support:
* Support for multiple API providers (OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, etc.)
* Customizable system prompts and temperature controls (the custom prompts open up tons of use cases beyond a "council")
* Export & Import of councils, prompts, and settings (for backup and even sharing)
* Control the council size (from 1 to 8 - original only supported 3)
* Full Ollama support for local models
* "I'm Feeling Lucky" random model selector
* Filter only Free models on OpenRouter (although Rate Limits can be an issue)
* Control the Process, from a simple asking multiple models a question in parallel (Chat Only), Chat & peer rating where models rate the responses of other models, and Full end-to-end deliberation where the Chairman model makes the final decision on the best answer
You can compare up to 8 models simul

Is it normal to not miss people?

I've had a good and loving childhood. I love my family. But I don't miss them at all when I don't see them for a long time. I don't even really think about them.
Same goes for essentially all my friends, except a very select few. But even when I miss one of those three, I don't continuously.
Same for partners when I used to date. Tbf, I'm aro. When I move to new areas, I usually lose contact with my friends, and am fine with it. And when pets die, I am sad and hollow, but only shortly.
Otherwise, I do genuinly care a lot about these people. And I have more healthy relationships than ever, due to maturing, but I still feel about the same.
Is this a me issue, or is this a general experience?

I feel constantly lonely and scared because of my mental state and fears, and that has caused me to act embarrassingly s

So I have OCD and kind of a “taboo“ theme that was bugging me for a long time. my therapist told me not to post on Reddit, but yeah, I just couldnt resist. so I had been making the same post over and over again about the weird fear I had. at first, I got support but then later I got more nasty comments, calling it a weird fetish. I see why but also it kind of hurt because I feel like I’m anxious 24/7. I’m thinking of going on meds but I’m not sure. I feel bad but I feel thankful to people who tried to help me but I also feel sorry for spamming. I’m trying to be better, I am paranoid of people hating me or finding my Reddit and tying it into my real life, because i never talk about my weird phobia irl because I don’t want people to think badly of me. I’m thinking of my getting a part time job, joining a sports league, possibly trying meds. any advice? I have sworn to never post that question again. I want to get better and happier and forget the past and stop worrying once and for all!

I fact-checked "AI 2041" predictions from 2021. Here's what Kai-Fu Lee got right and wrong.

Been on an AI book kick lately. Picked up *AI 2041* by Kai-Fu Lee and Chen Qiufan—it came out in 2021, before ChatGPT launched. Wanted to see how the predictions held up.
**Quick background:** Lee was president of Google China and is a major AI investor. Chen is an award-winning Chinese sci-fi author. The format is interesting—each chapter has a sci-fi story set in 2041, then Lee follows with technical analysis.

## My Scorecard
### ✅ Got It Right
- **Deepfake explosion** — Predicted massive growth. Reality: 500K in 2023 → 8M in 2025 (900% annual growth)
- **Education AI** — Predicted personalized learning would go mainstream. Reality: 57% of universities now prioritizing AI
- **Voice cloning** — Predicted it would become trivially easy. Reality: seconds of audio now creates convincing clones
- **Insurance AI** — Predicted deep learning would transform insurance pricing. Reality: happening now
- **Job displacement pattern** — Predicted gradual change hitting specific sectors first. Reality: exactly what we're seeing
### ❌ Got It Wrong
- **AGI timeline** — Lee was skeptical it would come soon. Industry leaders now say 2026-2028.
- **Autonomous vehicles** — Book suggested faster a

TW: SA, victim blaming

a year ago, I was raped by a guy I went on a date with. It wasn’t mutual feelings just a casual date. I don’t remember all the details anymore, or my brain chose not to. what I do remember is freezing. I was crying, couldn’t move, and even when I had chances to run or scream, I didn’t. I froze out of fear.
what confuses me is that the rape itself isn’t what causes the worst relapses.
what always triggers me is the OB-GYN visit after.
she didn’t believe me. she shamed me. she asked, “Why were you in the car with him in the first place?” and “Why didn’t you run when he had a phone call?” even after she saw an abrasion inside me (the pain i felt while she was doing internal exam inside me, the pain where she inserted the speculum inside me was more painful than the rapist’s dick). that moment hurt in a way I still can’t explain. that’s where everything crashes back in.
I also get triggered thinking about how alone I was.
at 19, I had to go to an OB-GYN alone to collect proof.
at 19, I had to walk into a police station and explain what happened to me.
a 19, I had to look for a lawyer I couldn’t afford while the man who raped me comes from a politically connected family.

I'm finally done doing shit I don't give a fuck about.

I hated going to kindergarten. I hated going to school. I hated uni. And I especially hated working a 9-to-5.
Waking up at a time you hate, going to a building you don't care about, to people you don't care about, doing a job you don't care about for a company you don't care about. I worked a bunch of different jobs, in totally different fields, and I hated everything.
So I packed up my shit and just left. I'm back in my cheap-ass home country now, living off investment dividends until I figure something out. It only took me almost 30 years to finally walk away from it all.
For now, I feel content. That’s something.

Insecurity is killing me

I’m a 20-year-old guy and I’ve always been deeply insecure — about my looks and about my success. It’s gotten so bad that I dread even going to the grocery store, because I feel so ugly and inferior just being around other people. No matter how many compliments I get from my partner, it never feels like enough. It only takes seeing one guy who looks better than me to completely ruin my day.
The same thing happens with success, but even worse. I just saw a Reddit post about dude a bit older than me who bought a really nice home from his parents at a big discount. Meanwhile, I live in a modest government-subsidized apartment with my partner, and I pay my share using benefits. Every time I see someone close to my age doing well, I immediately feel like a failure. I shut down and start hating myself. It’s exhausting.
Right now I’m unemployed. I have diagnosed depression and I’m waiting to be evaluated for ADHD. I’m not in school yet, but I’m trying to get into law school. Objectively, I know I’m not completely unlucky — my parents give me €100 a month and pay my phone bill, and my partner’s dad gave us a car and maintains it for free. I know I should be grateful for those things. But e

CMV: Trump administration wants to tank the dollar and the US economy to profit from it before the ship sinks

Nearly 40T in debt. Trump administration keeps touting that the tariffs are paying off debts (which is not true) and even said that they plan to increase military spending from 1T to 1.5T in 2027.
Because they are insiders, they see the sinking ship and that there is no way around it. So they are profiteering from it while they still can. This aligns with what the Trump administration is doing, threatening with military actions everywhere (including Greenland) to increase weapon sales and set up opportunities for shorting the entire stock market in the US.
What other explanation can you have for Greenland? Minerals are one, but let's be fair, no administration is that forward-looking. The real reason is that by alienating the EU, they allow the process of US companies to tank faster and given all the insider information they have, make insane profit from the average joe.

Do you think putting yourself first is selfish?

Lately I've been thinking about what motivates me in life and contrary to what I've believed the entire time, it's not living in the service of others. Nothing motivates me more than doing things for myself (obviously not at the cost of others). But I don't want to live for other people, I want to live for myself. Sure, I'll help out people when I can but helping them is not my main motivation in life. However, I can't help but feel like a selfish asshole for being motivated by selfish desires.
P.S.: I'm not really considering kids in the equation, but I am considering other family.

Imagine AI picking who gets promoted at your job. Should it just suggest or decide?

Hey everyone, imagine logging into work and finding out an AI system just picked who gets promoted, based on your emails, typing speed, or based on performance or even how often you check news sites.
Sounds wild, right? But a recent survey shows 60% of managers already use AI for stuff like raises and promotions. It could cut out human bias, but what if it misses the real story behind your hard work?
Should AI just suggest options, or actually decide? Like, assist with data but let humans call the shots? Or go full auto?
