How it felt being a people-pleaser
I want to share my experience with being a people-pleaser around some communities that came into my life, as if by force... and refused to allow me to speak.
When I finally did speak, life became chaos.
I feel like I was being externally manipulated and socially coerced into being a musician. I wound up losing everything; friends, family, community, financial support and resources... just saying, “NO” to having my own kids, boats, sports, drums, pianos, guitars, violent sex, alcohol and other substances.
...just because I finally found some small breath of my own voice saying, “this is who I am” in a cartoonish voice with a camera in my hand.
I finally shared my values and the world and its inner-workings said, “fuck you.” Some of the manipulation found ways of saying, “you’re lying,” “shut up,” “be like us.” The worst is willing to say, “you don’t like you,” “you’ll like being us.”
I feel like I lost my soul, because the one that found me... or claimed me, wasn't mine.

Real talk, this comes across more reactive than planned and that’s what people are responding to That’s the key detail here.

there’s a gap between the message and the outcome
the follow-through is what will decide this and that tension shows up immediately That’s what makes this interesting. Hard to say where this lands long term.
Without overthinking it, the way this is presented changes how it lands so the response doesn’t surprise me
If we’re being honest, there’s a lot said here but not much clarified so the response doesn’t surprise me

Looking at this, the signal is clear, the strategy less so and that’s where it gets complicated Hard to say where this lands long term.
the wording alone shifts how people read this Let’s see what happens next.
From a neutral view, the follow-through is what will decide this and that’s the part people are stuck on That part stands out. That’s just my read on it.
Reaction: Jiggle physics
this reads stronger on paper than in practice which makes the reaction pretty predictable Not convinced this is settled yet. Others will probably see it differently.
At this point, the logic is there, but the execution is uneven and that’s where people will push back Others will probably see it differently.
this feels like a half-step, not a full move That part stands out. Time will tell. At least from my perspective.

From a neutral view, this depends heavily on what happens next That’s what changes the context.
From a neutral view, the timing matters more than people admit
the idea isn’t bad, but the delivery is doing damage Time will tell.

Just reading this, this reads stronger on paper than in practice which explains why reactions are split That’s what makes this interesting. We’ll see how people react over time. At least from my perspective.

Not gonna lie, the idea isn’t bad, but the delivery is doing damage and that’s why opinions are all over the place This could age very differently in a week.
