CMV: I completely understand the point of Superman’s character. And I still hate him.
To start I’ve never been that into the superhero genre. The worldbuilding/scaling is often messy and for the larger franchises there’s just so much to catch up on. I liked Invincible and The Boys when they came out though (I know, I know).
The least aesthetically pleasing mainstream hero for me has always been Superman. I’ve disliked him for surface level reasons in the past, like every fight with him is a guaranteed win and thus boring, his personality isn’t interesting, etc etc etc. At that point I just found him bland but completely harmless.
I understand the core of his character is to inspire hope, goodness and love within people. He loves earth and the people on it wholeheartedly, like a golden retriever in the form of a god. Which I thought was super cheesy before but I just went along with it.
But as I’ve grown older I’ve started to go from mild indifference to him to outright resentment. I strongly hate people, this hatred is completely justifiable. Everyday I go online and find another idiot denying the moon landings or creepy men in their fifties posting their fantasies about traveling to Southeast Asia and marrying teenage girls, I see and hear all types of slurs and de
