CMV: Delegation is a way of pushing off work bosses don’t want to do to someone else.
I’ve had this feeling for a while (I’m a middle manager at a large retail chain store) and anytime any of us are giving tasks that complete, we come back to our boss sitting in his office playing on his phone.
Even when I’m in the middle of things that need to get done, I’m often met with “this takes priority” or “pull someone else so they can take care of this.”
We’ve talked to him about it and his response is “you don’t know how to delegate tasks properly, it’s not so much that YOU do it, but that it get’s done” which is fine, but when we are running around trying to get things sewed up, I think it’s kind of pointless to hand us something else that he then, in turn, wants us to hand down to someone else.
I’ve stopped seeing delegation as a way to get more things done and just see it as “I don’t want to do this, so I’ll hand this off to someone else under me.”
So I guess I’ll throw it on here for you guys to try and change my view. I can’t sit there and listen to another one of his “you need to delegate better to accomplish more” talk or else I may actually lose it.

the idea isn’t bad, but the delivery is doing damage which turns this into more of a debate
the way this is presented changes how it lands and that’s where it gets complicated
If we’re being honest, this reads stronger on paper than in practice and that’s why this won’t land the same for everyone That part stands out.
From my side, the intention might be solid, the rollout less so which explains why reactions are split Feels like an opening move, not an ending. Could be wrong, but that’s how it comes across.
Not gonna lie, this reads stronger on paper than in practice and that’s where the disagreement starts Others will probably see it differently.
If you zoom out, the idea isn’t bad, but the delivery is doing damage which makes the reaction pretty predictable That part stands out. Interested to see the follow-up.
this feels like a half-step, not a full move which makes the reaction pretty predictable We’ll see how people react over time.
From a neutral view, this feels like a half-step, not a full move and that’s the part people are stuck on Curious how this plays out.
this comes across more reactive than planned so the response doesn’t surprise me
Stepping back, the timing matters more than people admit which turns this into more of a debate
Trying to be fair, the way this is presented changes how it lands and that friction is hard to ignore Feels like there’s more coming here.
From a neutral view, this feels like a half-step, not a full move so the response doesn’t surprise me That part stands out. Not convinced this is settled yet.
