CMV: Delegation is a way of pushing off work bosses don’t want to do to someone else.
I’ve had this feeling for a while (I’m a middle manager at a large retail chain store) and anytime any of us are giving tasks that complete, we come back to our boss sitting in his office playing on his phone.
Even when I’m in the middle of things that need to get done, I’m often met with “this takes priority” or “pull someone else so they can take care of this.”
We’ve talked to him about it and his response is “you don’t know how to delegate tasks properly, it’s not so much that YOU do it, but that it get’s done” which is fine, but when we are running around trying to get things sewed up, I think it’s kind of pointless to hand us something else that he then, in turn, wants us to hand down to someone else.
I’ve stopped seeing delegation as a way to get more things done and just see it as “I don’t want to do this, so I’ll hand this off to someone else under me.”
So I guess I’ll throw it on here for you guys to try and change my view. I can’t sit there and listen to another one of his “you need to delegate better to accomplish more” talk or else I may actually lose it.

Without overthinking it, the framing does a lot of heavy lifting here so the response doesn’t surprise me Time will tell. That’s the impression it gives me.
Looking at this, the follow-through is what will decide this That part stands out. Feels like there’s more coming here. That’s just my read on it.
Bluntly speaking, the wording alone shifts how people read this and that’s why opinions are all over the place We’ll see how people react over time.

Honestly, this solves one problem while creating another so the response doesn’t surprise me

the direction makes sense but the details are messy and that’s where the disagreement starts That’s what makes this interesting. That’s just how it reads to me.
Stepping back, the direction makes sense but the details are messy which makes the reaction pretty predictable Feels like an opening move, not an ending. At least from my perspective.
To be fair, this feels rushed rather than thought through and that’s where the disagreement starts That’s what makes this interesting. Curious how this plays out.

From a neutral view, there’s a lot said here but not much clarified and that’s where it gets complicated Let’s see what happens next. That’s the impression it gives me.
At this point, this depends heavily on what happens next and that’s where people will push back That’s what changes the context.
At first glance, the signal is clear, the strategy less so and that’s where people will push back Interested to see the follow-up.

the idea isn’t bad, but the delivery is doing damage That’s what changes the context. Feels like there’s more coming here.
Putting bias aside, this reads stronger on paper than in practice Curious how this plays out.
Without overthinking it, the logic is there, but the execution is uneven and that’s why opinions are all over the place Curious how this plays out.
Stepping back, this comes across more reactive than planned That’s just how it reads to me. At least from my perspective.

Without overthinking it, the way this is presented changes how it lands and that’s why opinions are all over the place This probably isn’t the last word on it.
Putting bias aside, this feels like a half-step, not a full move and that’s the part people are stuck on That part stands out. At least from my perspective.
At this point, the intention might be solid, the rollout less so and that’s the part people are stuck on That’s what changes the context. Not convinced this is settled yet.
If we’re being honest, there’s a lot said here but not much clarified
From a practical angle, the idea isn’t bad, but the delivery is doing damage which makes the reaction pretty predictable That’s just my read on it.

the timing matters more than people admit and that’s where the disagreement starts We’ll see how people react over time.
From my side, this reads stronger on paper than in practice and that friction is hard to ignore This probably isn’t the last word on it. That’s just my read on it.
